MapInfo
Professional is the world's leading software for mapping
and geographic analysis. With MapInfo you can better visualise and
analyse data resulting in more effective business decisions. MapInfo
allows you to create highly detailed maps to aid the decision making
process, revealing patterns and trends in data that may otherwise
be impossible to see. It can be used to analyse customer demographics,
manage geographically based assets (such as business outlets, property
and people), or plan logistics and prepare for emergency response.

- Database
connectivity including Microsoft Access 2000 and Oracle 8i Spatial.
- 3D
viewing of any map containing a continous shaded thematic map
allowing tilt, rotation, panning and zooming.
- Chart
and graph generation including 3D, bubble, column, histogram,
surface, area, bar, line and pie scatter charts with viewpoint
control of position, tilt, rotation and pie explosion.
- Thematic
Mapping to reveal patterns and trends based on data values. Choose
from hundreds of colors, symbols and line types to enhance comparisons.
- Generate
polygons based on existing objects, around the areas enclosed
by selected linear objects, or as the minimum bounding convex
polygon for all selected objects.
- Perform
detailed geographic searches with buffering and area selection
tools.
- Translate
bi-directionally between MapInfo Professional and other mapping
environments including AutoCAD, ESRI and Intergraph/Bentley. Formats
include DWG, DXF, DGN and Shape. Government formats supported
in v6.0 include VPF and SDTS. The ESRI E00 format is supported
by ArcLink and the Atlas GIS native format is supported by AG*Link,
both separate utilities are also included with MapInfo Professional.
- Use
raster images such as scanned paper maps, satellite images, photographs
and logos to provide detailed content layers for your maps.
MapBasic
is MapInfo's application programming language. It is a robust, structured
language built on BASIC, that enables programmers to create powerful
mapping applications. MapBasic extends geographic functionality,
automates repetitive operations, and integrates MapInfo Professional
with other applications.
MapBasic
can also be used to modify the MapInfo Professional user interface
by adding customized toolbars, menus and dialog boxes to suit the
specific needs and technical sophistication of the end user.
