MapBasic is MapInfo's application programming language. It is a robust, structured language built on BASIC, that enables programmers to create powerful mapping applications. MapBasic extends geographic functionality, automates repetitive operations, and integrates MapInfo Professional with other applications.

MapBasic can also be used to modify the MapInfo Professional user interface by adding customized toolbars, menus and dialog boxes to suit the specific needs and technical sophistication of the end user.
