GISTec offers extensive image processing services utilising Earth Resources' ERMapper software. We provide expertise in the following areas:

Data Acquisition - we can advise and aid clients in the purchase of a variety of digital datasets or hardcopies such as:

  • Satellite imagery - Landsat TM & MSS, SPOT, SPOT-LITE, ERS SAR, JERS SAR and RADARSAT from ACRES (Australian Centre for Remote Sensing).
  • Geophysical data - Airborne magnetics, radiometrics and gravity data from AGSO (Australian Geological Survey Organisation).
  • Aerial photography and digital elevation data from AUSLIG (Australian Surveying and Land Information Group)

Data Processing - GISTec can advise on the most appropriate and cost effective methods to extract information from digital datasets. Data analyses include:

  • Basic procedures - colour composites, contrast stretching and image filtering
  • Advanced techniques - band ratioing for clay and silica discrimination, Principal Component Analysis to highlight multiband anomalies, and image classification (supervised and unsupervised)
  • Specialised procedures - Crosta Technique to discriminate clay/iron oxides in arid terrain, NDVI (Normalised Difference Vegetation Index) for crop/vegetation monitoring.

Data Display - ERMapper can provide onscreen images in both two and three dimensions to effectively display single or multiple datasets. Styles used include mosaicking, single band/channel greyscale and colour composite images, RGBI (data fusion) images, sun angle shading, colourdrape images, stereo-pair images, 3D perspective views (single and multi-layer) and real-time 3D flythrough views.

Data Output - GISTec can output client data in a variety of formats. Images can be produced in common JPEG or TIFF formats, as native ERMapper files (viewable using the freely available ERViewer software), or specialised formats such as ARC/INFO coverages or ERDAS img files. Hardcopies of images can be produced on media up to 54 inches wide or tiled onto A3 media then laminated for ease of handling in the field. Screen images can also be captured on 35mm or 6x4.5cm transparency film for projection on to large screens for interpretation or presentation.

Data Conversion - ERMapper can import and export datasets in a number of formats including all satellite image formats, ARC/INFO, Erdas Imagine, Geosoft, Microbrian, Seisworks, Sun raster and ASCII grid files for raster data, and ARC/INFO, AutoCAD DXF, Microstation DGN, Genamap and Seisworks files for vector data.

Integration with MapInfo - by using the freely available third party software, MapImagery by GID, ERMapper images can be easily viewed in MapInfo, allowing the raster image processing strengths of ERMapper to be combined with the vector and spatial processing strengths of MapInfo.
